Cranfield University Signs Finance Agreement with Mexico

13th February 2012

Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology, CONACYT (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología) and Cranfield University have signed a co-financing agreement to help provide financial support for postgraduate Mexican students to study at Cranfield.

The agreement will enable those wishing to study at Cranfield to apply for competitive scholarships, which the University will supplement by providing a 25% discount on tuition fees.

Signed by Cranfield’s Vice Chancellor Professor Sir John O’Reilly and UK CONACYT representative Maria Teresa Alonso, the contract marks the culmination of  extensive relationship building activity between Cranfield and Mexican Universities, Government agencies and industry with the aim of building long-standing relationships to enable research collaboration and student exchange. The signing coincided with a visit from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and representatives from Mexico’s media who witnessed the event.

Afterwards, Professor Sir John O’Reilly said: “We are delighted to have established this agreement with CONACYT. Our organisations share a close interest in a number of specialist scientific and technological areas and we look forward to postgraduate students benefiting from our new relationship”.

Speaking on behalf of the Director General of CONACyT, Dr Enrique Villa-Rivera, Dr Alonso said that the signing of the agreement was the start of a long and fruitful relationship that would promote close collaboration between the two institutions, benefiting both in their joint goal of seeking excellence in teaching and research for science and technology.

Cranfield’s world-renowned expertise in Bioscience, Engineering, Energy and Manufacturing  has played a key factor in the establishment of the agreement.  As one of the top five research-intensive Universities in the UK, Cranfield has extensive industry links, and offers specialist postgraduate programmes unique to the market. Cranfield is a perfect match for CONACYT to help develop Mexico’s scientific and technological interests.
